Biography
Born in Paris on January 22, 1924 and died in Cosne-sur-Loire on May 6, 2010, Robert Deblander was a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He devoted his entire life to stoneware ceramics, of which he was one of the leaders of the post-war renaissance, and then to porcelain. In the course of his immense career, he wrote extensively on the aesthetics of ceramics and contemporary ceramists.
A leading figure in contemporary ceramics, Robert Deblander is one of those ceramists whose work is the most accomplished expression of French ceramic art in the second half of the 20th century. His work is marked by a desire for transcendence and surpassing that are the very foundations of art.
